The Saint Paul Public Works - Survey Division CAN NOT provide technical support for any of the plug-ins linked to and needed by this site. It is the responsibility of the user to acquire the necessary plug-ins and perform the installations in order to make use of this site. Most sites providing plug-ins have a Fequently Ask Questions (FAQ) page. If you have problems installing a plug-in consult the site where it was downloaded.

Autodesk's WHIP-4 plug-in is no longer available, download Autodesk DWF (Design Web Format) Viewer (formerly Autodesk Express Viewer). The viewer is a free download from Autodesk.

The The Autodesk DWF Viewer (formerly Autodesk Express Viewer) is for viewing Autodesk's dwf drawing format over the internet. After down loading & installing the viewer from Autodesk, exit your browser and restart it to activate the new plug-in.

When printing a dwf file, make sure you use the plug-in print option by right click your mouse in the graphics screen area and pick print and not from the File/print pull down from your browser.

There's a TIFF VIEWER plug-in which works with Netscape Navigator 3.0 and higher, Internet Explorer 3.0 and higher, and Opera 3.51 and higher. It is a 32-bit Windows program, and requires Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT 4.0, and a 32-bit browser. The AlternaTIFF plug-in is a free download. This program is free to use for any purpose; however, you must register it before it can be used. This viewer allows you to pan, zoom in and out, rotate and print.

Files having a .dwf extension require Autodesk's DWF Viewer (formerly Autodesk Express Viewer) application.
Files having a .tif extension require a TIFF viewer plug-in or application program.

In order to view section ties and bench mark information, you will need Autodesk's DWF Viewer (formerly Autodesk Express Viewer) application.
Some section ties and the Public Land Survey (PLS) notes require a TIFF viewer plug-in or application program.

When using the bench mark maps:
    DO NOT use elevations on the section, quarter and centers of sections, they are used for areial photo control only.
    DO NOT use elevations marked "EU" these are Unadjusted bench marks, they are for St Paul Surveyor's Office use only.

When viewing a dwf file via Autodesk's DWF Viewer (formerly Autodesk Express Viewer) application you can use the Home key to view the entire image, Page Up or Page Down keys to zoom in or out, and the arrow keys to move about in the image, you must left click your mouse in the image for the keyboard keys to take effect. You can also right click your mouse to active a pop up selection box allowing you to pan, zoom, zoom rectangle, fit to window and print.

Bench mark locations can now be located by street intersection.
From the survey home page select BENCH MARK MAPS - SELECT BY STREET INTERSECTION. From the street intersection table scroll down until you find the desired street intersection. Place the cursor over the desired intersection - then left click your mouse button. Note: Of the two intersecting streets the lowest alphabetical street is listed first and the entire table is sorted on the first street listed. A drawing will be displayed. Click your right mouse button in the graphic portion of the screen. A pop up window will appear. Click your left mouse button over "Named Views..." and a listing of street intersections will appear. Click your left mouse button over the desired intersection and the drawing will be zoomed in on the selected intersection.

Traverse and monument infomation can now be located by street intersection.
From the survey home page select TRAVERSE & MONUMENT INFO - SELECT GRAPHICALLY. Click your right mouse button in the graphic portion of the screen. A pop up window will appear. Click your left mouse button over "Named Views..." and a listing of street intersections will appear. Click your left mouse button over the desired intersection and the drawing will be zoomed in on the selected intersection. Move your cursor over a point when the cursor changes from an arrow to a hand left click your mouse.

CAUTION: When selecting a point to get information on, make sure there is not another point in close proximity. There is a chance that you will get information on a point close by. Solution is to zoom in very close on the point then select it.
